WHAT IS COMPLEMENTARY & ALTERNATIVE MEDICINE (CAM) ?

CAM is a group of diverse medical and health care systems, practices, and products that are not presently considered to be part of conventional medicine (allopathy), although CAM has been embraced by mankind in Asia and Europe for thousands of years before medical science emerged, about 200 years ago.

COMPLEMENTARY medicine is used together with conventional medicine. An example of a complementary therapy is using aromatherapy. A therapy in which the scent of essential oils from flowers, herbs, and trees is inhaled to promote health and well-being, to help lessen a patient's discomfort following surgery.

ALTERNATIVE medicine is used in place of conventional medicine. An example of an alternative therapy is using a special diet and supplements to treat cancer instead of undergoing surgery, radiation, or chemotherapy that has been recommended by a conventional doctor.

INTEGRATIVE medicine combines treatments from conventional medicine and CAM for which there is some high-quality evidence of safety and effectiveness. It is also called integrated medicine.

What are the major types of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM)?

According to NCCAM ( http://nccam.nih.gov/health/ ), CAM practices fall into 5 main domains, whereby, there can be some overlap. They are:

1. Whole Medical Systems e.g. Traditional Chinese Medicine, Naturopathy, Homeopathy.

2. Mind-Body Medicine e.g. relaxation technique, prayer, creative outlet: art-music-dance, meditation.

3. Biologically Based Practices e.g. herbs, vitamins, minerals, amino acids, nutritious foods, etc

4. Manipulative and Body-Based Practices e.g. chiropractic, massage, therapeutic exercises.

5. Energy Medicine e.g. bio-fields (like chi qong), and Bioelectromagnetic-based therapies that involve the use of electromagnetic fields, such as pulsed fields, magnetic fields, or alternating-current or direct-current fields.

People from all over the world are now seriously looking into CAM, as they perceive conventional medicine to be limiting, costly and full of side effects.

PRINCIPLES & PRACTICE OF INTEGRATIVE MEDICINE (IM)

1. First do no harm to the patient/person. Do not assume you have the monopoly of treatment method and ultimate knowledge . And do not assume that “one size fits all”.

2. Establish the ROOT CAUSE of a disease condition, whether it is due to Nutritional Deficiency – Toxicity Exposure – Emotional Trauma – Physical Stress – Other Factors.

3. Get all relevant the medical reports to establish the full picture and to support your proposed treatment options.

4. Fine tune and adjust treatment to patient/person’s requirement or preferences, progressively but gently.

5. Treat the person/patient in his or her entirety: EMOTION-MIND-BODY-SPIRIT.

HERE ARE SOME SUCCESS STORIES

CASE (1) Female aged 38 Suffered a viral fever for more than 2 weeks. Had been on 8 panadols a day for 2 weeks continuously. The government hospital was lost on whether to admit her or how to give her the appropriate treatment. She was experiencing pains all over her body and feeling chilly within. REMEDY: We put her on pure, vitamin C powder (10 grams) per day. Relief came within 2 days, and deliverance followed within a week.

CASE (2) Female aged 70 could not recover from her second knee cap surgery wound. It was inflamed and “reddish”. She was put on intravenous antibiotic drip till she vomited and could stand it no more. REMEDY: We gave her (secretly) pure vitamin C powder (10 grams) per day + good quality Colloidal Silver 3 tablespoons per day. She was delivered within a week and touched no antibiotic thereafter.

CASE (3) Male aged 16 contracted serious tonsillitis. Was at the verge of a surgery to remove the tonsils (a component of the immune system), due to failure to respond to medications and injections. Condition was so bad that he could not even swallow his saliva properly. REMEDY: We put him on chlorella + pure vitamin C powder + Colloidal Silver every hourly. It was a very painful sight initially, as the tonsils/throat area appeared to be completely whitish and “ulcerated”. Nonetheless, the inflammation subsided by more than 50% within a week and thereafter complete healing took place.

CASE (4) Female aged 58, developed regular gum bleeding and abscess. Saw a few dental experts but to no avail. From bleeding gum, came bad breath, constipation and sudden change of body temperature resulting in chills from time to time. REMEDY: Having observed her for about 3 years, I directed her to my biological dentist to get all her nickel crowns (15 teeth) replaced with porcelain crowns. She also had about 5 other damaged teeth extracted. She was also put on nutritional supplements and colon irrigation. Over the next 6 months, her health improved very well and she experiences no more bleeding gum and bad breath.

CASE (5) Female aged 59. Had hyper-thyroidism since mid 1999. Rounds of hospital visits and strong medication, resulted in fatigue, constipation, emotional distress, anxiety, frustration, and hair loss. She was even administered Radio Active Iodine (RAI) treatment twice, in an attempt to “suppress” the thyroid for “easy” treatment.
REMEDY: Stopped medication more than 2 years now. Went on proper nutrition, supplements, homeopathy, and colon irrigation. TSH, T3 and T4 (thyroid hormones) returned to normal range as of blood report dated 23-07-07.

CASE (6) Female aged 37, experienced “burning” sensation in her appendix/colon area, as well as under her armpit. After checking with doctors, she was recommended to go for an operation to determine the causes. They told her it’s infection….. REMEDY: Put her on a thorough colon irrigation and therapy + supplements + proper nutrition. Her condition recovered within a week. She was overjoyed.

CASE (7) Female aged 45. Year 2002. Had fibroids in the uterus, with the biggest being 8cm in size. The gynecologist pressed for a hysterectomy, followed by hormone replacement therapy (HRT). REMEDY: she went on Chinese herbal treatment for a year + dietary change + stress management + enemas. As of 2008, her 8cm uterine fibroid has shrunk into half its original size. During the initial period, we monitored for abnormal blood discharge, pains, constipation and urinary tract infection, which can be possible direct effects if fibroids increase in their sizes.

CASE (8) Female aged 52. Complained about pain in the arms and shoulders everyday + hot flushes + insomnia + irritability. Upon consulting a gynecologist, she was diagnosed as having very low estrogen levels, pointing to the onset of menopause. The specialist suggested to immediately put her on hormone replacement therapy (HRT). REMEDY: we put her on progesterone cream + black cohosh + chaste tree + other nutritionals. Symptoms subsided significantly within a month of alternative therapy.
